Rødvig Jurassic Lime

Product Description

Rødvig Jurassic Lime is manufactured from a naturally argillaceous limestone, which is quarried in an open quarry. After being crushed, the raw materials are burned in a limekiln at approx. 1000° degrees. Afterwards the product is pulverized. Rødvig jurassic lime consists of three minerals. Carbonate and two silicates. They set approximately at the same time and form an open crystal net.

Field of Application

Due to its properties, Rødvig jurassic lime can be placed between the old mature putty and the Portland cement. This explains its multiple applications throughout the construction sector:

  • Rødvig jurassic lime is very fine-grained. Thus the typically stiff, yet very pliable, mortar is created. It yields good compressive mortars and surprisingly big tensile strengths are achieved - up to a quarter of the compressive strength - properties which have influence on the strength of the masonry and the mortar’s ability to follow the movements of the masonry.
  • Rødvig jurassic lime mortar is elastic and pliable even in hardened condition, making it easier to avoid cracks in the adherence zone as well as in the plastering.
  • It is “mild”. This is important in order to use it as mixed mortar. With Rødvig jurassic lime mortar, the risk of discoloration of unhewn stones or scummings on the tiles.
  • The jurassic mortars create crystals and yields an open net of pores, which effects the water and the passage of steam and therefore also the durability of the mortar and lime layer.
  • Rødvig jurassic lime mortar is particularly suitable for bedding and water scouring mortar. It is also very suitable for mixed mortar used for tiled floors, fragile unhewn stones and tiled roofs.
  • It is a preferred binder for rendering, due to its great tensile strength.
  • Finally, Rødvig jurassic lime can be used as addition to pumped concrete and ready-mixed concrete. Cracks in the adherence zone and the plaster layers are thus easier to avoid.

Rødvig jurassic lime is with these properties a key component of the majority of our mortar mixtures for both bricklaying, jointing and plastering.

Packaging

Rødvig jurrasic lime is stored and sold in 25 kg bags (15 liter). For large projects, we can deliver the lime milk in Big Bags or silo. For further information, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Additional Information

KALK A/S has been the market leader for many years with products used for renovation of conservation and listed buildings among others. The products can also be used for new construction because of the good physical properties of the material:

  • Great flexibility in use
  • Great elasticity and adhesion
  • High tensile strength
  • Good porosity, which provides excellent insulation and moisture conditions.

We have extensive experience in assisting clients in the use of our products. The technical guidance, which we can offer, merely serves to aid you with experiences. Therefore, we do not take on the responsibility of being planning technicians. With regards to renovation work, we can refer to technicians who are familiar with renovation work on buildings worthy of preservation.

Guidance

Mixing

Rødvig jurassic lime is part of a wide range of our ready-mixed products. In the following, we will go through 4 mortar types with which we have good experiences. Here, they are called: III, IV, V and VI.

With regards to cubic measures, the mixing ratios applying for our Rødvig jurassic lime are used; as the density of the lime is of significance for mixing, using this method:

1:3       1½:3       (Kh 100/400 – Type III)
2:1:9    2:1½:9    (KKh 50/50/575 – Type IV)
1:1:6    1:1½:6     (KKh 35/65/500 – Type V)
1:2:9    1:3:9       (KKh 20/80/475 – Type VI)

Consumption:
A good rule of thumb for the calculation of the consumption of mortar in measures is to multiply the number of square metres on the surface with the thickness of the layer in millimetres with 1.6 kilos. Ergo: m2 x mm x 1.6= kg

Type: Type III

Name: Hydraulic lime mortar (Rødvig jurassic mortar Kh 100/400)

Mixture, cubic measure: 1½:3. 1½ part Rødvig jurassic lime and 3 parts Kronhøj mortar sand. It is dry-mixed and a suitable amount of water is added. Mixed in a compulsory mixing machine for 20 minutes.

Mixture, weight measure: Kh 100/400

Application: Pure hydraulic lime mortar is well-suited for exterior work, rough-casting on ridge tiles and hip tiles, weatherboards, end of projections, footings, and is also well-suited as a basis mix for slaked lime mortar.

Type: Type IV

Name: Hydraulic lime mortar (Rødvig jurassic mortar KKh 50/50/575)

Mixture, cubic measure: 2:1½:9. As 2 component: 2 parts Rødvig slaked lime mortar of the type I (K100/750) and 1 part hydraulic lime mortar of the type III (Kh 100/400). Mixed in compulsory mixing machine for 20 minutes. From scratch: 2 parts Rødvig slaked lime, 1½ part Rødvig Jurassic lime and 9 parts Kronhøj mortar sand. It is suggested that you dry-mix 3 parts sand with 1½ part jurassic lime, after which 2 parts lime are added and finally the remaining 6 parts sand, as well as the necessary amount of water. Mixed in a compulsory mixing machine for 20 minutes.

Mixture, weight measure: KKh 50/50/575

Application: This mortar can be used for interior work and is well-suited for stopping up tiled roofs. It should not be used for exterior work.

Type: Type V

Name: Hydraulic lime mortar (Rødvig jurassic mortar KKh 35/65/500)

Mixture, cubic measure: 1:1½:6. As 2 component:1 part Rødvig slaked lime mortar of the type I (K100/750) and 1 part hydraulic lime mortar of the type III (Kh 100/400). Mixed in a compulsory mixing machine for 20 minutes. From scratch: 1 part Rødvig slaked lime, 1½ part Rødvig Jurassic lime and 6 parts Kronhøj mortar sand. It is suggested that you dry-mix 1½ part jurassic lime with 3 parts sand, after which the slaked lime and the last sand is added as well as the necessary amount of water. Mixed in a compulsory mixing machine for 20 minutes.

Mixture, weight measure: KKh 35/65/500

Application: This mortar is well-suited for brickwork, laying mortar for interior tile and natural tile floors, for exterior plastering, water scouring and pointing of facades.

Type: Type VI

Name: Hydraulic lime mortar (Rødvig jurassic mortar KKh 20/80/475)

Mixture, cubic measure: 1:3:9. As 2 component: 1 part Rødvig slaked lime mortar of the type I (K 100/750) and 2 parts hydraulic lime mortar of the type III (Kh 100/400). Mixed in a compulsory mixing machine for 20 minutes. From scratch: 1 part Rødvig slaked lime mortar, 3 parts Rødvig jurassic lime and 9 parts Kronhøj mortar sand. It is suggested that you dry-mix 3 parts jurassic lime with 5 parts sand, after which the slaked lime and the last sand is added as well as the necessary amount of water. Mixed in a compulsory mixing machine for 20 minutes.

Mixture, weight measure: KKh 20/80/475

Application: This mortar is well-suited for brick masonry, laying ridge tiles and hip tiles, tiles on masonry and ridges, and for laying interior tiles and natural stone. Furthermore, it is suitable for coarse plastering on outer facades as well as for plastering and jointing.

Limitations of Use

When working with Rødvig Jurassic lime, the temperature must be above +5° and below +25°. The work should be carried out in the shadow.

Storage

Rødvig Jurassic lime should be stored with hermetic lids and in a frost-free location. The durability is unlimited if these conditions are met.
